IAG Cargo Volume Declines 7.2 Percent

International Airlines Group reported cargo traffic of 467 million metric-ton kilometers in September, down 7.2 percent from 503 million metric-ton kilometers of cargo in September 2012.

From January to September, the merged British Airways-Iberia carrier handled 4.150 million metric-ton kilometers of cargo, a decline of 8.2 percent year-over-year.

Iberia’s cargo traffic plummeted 20.2 percent in September, from 94 million metric-ton kilometers in 2012 to 75 million metric-ton kilometers in 2013. Year-to-date, Iberia moved 723 million metric-ton kilometers, slumping 16.2 percent year-over-year.

British Airways handled 392 million metric-ton kilometers in September, off 4.2 percent compared to the same month in 2012. From January to September, British Airway’s cargo volume dropped 6.3 percent year-over-year, declining from 3.656 million metric-ton kilometers in 2012 to 3.427 million metric-ton kilometers this year.

IAG’s load factor was down 1.0 points in September at 74.9 percent.
